Room Description
The McGavock Suite is the Grande Dame of The Mansion. Originally the master bedroom suite of the estate, The McGavock Suite’s extravagant four-poster king bed will envelop you in luxury while you admire the hand-carved marble fireplace mantel. Indulge yourself in the Jacuzzi tub built for two in the marble bathroom, or in the dual-head shower with a travertine mosaic wall. Spending time in this suite will ensure your quick return to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The McGavock Suite is named for Carrie Elizabeth McGavock, a native Mississippian, who tended to Civil War soldiers at her home after the historic Battle of Franklin, Tennessee in 1864. Mrs. McGavock and her husband are credited with one of the first national cemeteries in the United States, when she designated 2 acres adjacent to her home to bury nearly 1500 soldiers and personally maintained the cemetery.
